Dr. habil. Viktória Sugár received the Women in Science Excellence Award

A remarkable recognition has been awarded to Dr. habil. Viktória Sugár, Vice Rector for Sustainability and Strategic Development at Obuda University, who received the prestigious Women in Science Excellence Award in the category of engineering sciences at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

The award, presented for the thirteenth time by the Association of Hungarian Women in Science (NaTE) under the patronage of the Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO, recognizes outstanding scientific achievements, community engagement, and mentoring activities of female researchers. The honor is given to professionals whose work has made a lasting impact both nationally and internationally, while also inspiring young women to pursue careers in science and engineering.

Dr. Sugár’s research focuses on the intersection of architecture, energy efficiency, and climate adaptation. Through both theoretical and practical work, she examines how cities, residential buildings, and historic urban environments can become more livable, sustainable, and energy-efficient while adapting to the challenges of climate change without losing their original character and cultural value.

Her work highlights that historic residential buildings are not merely technical structures, but also cultural heritage sites and community spaces whose future depends on responsible professional decisions. These research efforts play a key role in shaping the long-term quality of urban environments and improving living conditions for future generations.
