Sustainability as a Daily Practice – Shaping the Future at Obuda University

Earth Day is a global reminder of our shared responsibility to protect the planet and build a sustainable future. At Obuda University, however, sustainability is not limited to a single day – it is embedded in everyday operations.

Across education, research, and institutional practices, the university is committed to creating measurable, real-world impact. This dedication is reflected in international recognition as well: according to the latest QS Sustainability Ranking, the university improved by more than 100 positions compared to last year, reaching 887th place globally.

Education and Research: Preparing Future Professionals

Sustainability is becoming an increasingly integral part of academic programs. Students gain not only theoretical knowledge but also practical experience by working on real-life challenges, equipping them to address complex environmental and social issues.

Research activities focus on key areas such as:

  • energy efficiency,
  • smart cities,
  • and sustainable technologies.

These areas play a crucial role in building a more livable and resilient future.

Sustainability in Operations

The university is taking concrete steps in its daily operations:

  • reducing energy consumption,
  • promoting circular solutions,
  • and developing more sustainable campuses.

These initiatives extend beyond the institution itself: students, staff, and wider communities are actively involved in sustainability programs.

This year, special emphasis is placed on improving water retention and reducing the use of PET bottles -because sustainability starts with everyday decisions.

ESG Approach and Transparency

Obuda University has adopted a comprehensive ESG strategy and will publish its first sustainability report this year. This milestone supports more transparent and measurable development, reinforcing the institution’s long-term commitment to responsible operations.
