Óbuda University is taking part in the 11-week “One Million Steps for Your School” initiative for the third time. Organised by the University’s Well-being and Equal Opportunities Office, the programme promotes regular physical activity, healthier lifestyles, community building and social responsibility.
The previous rounds successfully mobilised members of the university community. During the spring challenge, 264 members of staff participated, collectively completing more than 18.3 million steps and earning 2,289 “Daily 8” points. Their outstanding performance earned Óbuda University first place in Category 2 of the Large Corporate Competition.
From physical activity to a more conscious lifestyle
The challenge focuses on achieving 8,000 steps a day, but the programme goes far beyond physical activity. Participants can also earn points for healthier food choices, daily stress-management practices, improving sleep quality and duration, participating in community activities, socialising, choosing sustainable modes of transport, and achieving the recommended daily 8,000 steps.
In this way, the initiative encourages more conscious choices across several areas of everyday life while contributing to the physical and mental well-being of university employees.
Every step can support a good cause
An important element of the “One Million Steps for Your School” initiative is that participants can also contribute to supporting a disadvantaged school through their physical activity.
During the spring challenge, the efforts of Óbuda University staff contributed to the Boldogkőváraljai District Primary School receiving sports equipment worth HUF 1 million.
This autumn, participants will have the opportunity to support another disadvantaged educational institution: the Óbuda University community can contribute to the Hencida branch of the Károly Irinyi Primary School.
The programme runs from 21 September to 6 December. University employees can take part individually or join smaller community groups.
The initiative is an excellent example of how regular physical activity, health-conscious lifestyles, sustainable mobility and social responsibility can come together in the everyday life of a university community.
Let’s take steps together for our health, our community and a good cause – every step counts!
