Our Students Took Part in the 1st University PET Cup

We are proud of our students who took part in the 1st University PET Cup, joining Hungarian and international university students in an environmental action to clean the Bodrog River and its floodplain. Together, the participants collected nearly 3 tonnes of waste along a 37-kilometre section of the river.

Supported by the Active Hungary Programme, the event brought together nine teams of eight participants, including a team representing Óbuda University.

Starting from Sárospatak, the students worked their way along the Bodrog, passing through Bodrogolaszi and Sárazsadány before reaching Olaszliszka. During the 37-kilometre cleanup, they removed accumulated waste from the riverbed and surrounding floodplain, contributing to the protection and restoration of the local natural environment.

The environmental impact of the initiative is particularly significant as approximately 60 percent of the collected waste is suitable for recycling. This helps reduce the amount of waste remaining in the natural environment while supporting more responsible resource use and the principles of a circular economy.

Beyond its environmental impact, the 1st University PET Cup also provided an opportunity for Hungarian and international students to work together for a common cause, strengthening environmental awareness, community engagement and cooperation across universities.

We are grateful to our students for their commitment and for setting an inspiring example through their active contribution to protecting the Bodrog and its surrounding ecosystems.
