Egyptian Delegation Visits Our University – Focus on Sustainable Built Heritage

The visit of the delegation from Benha University marked another step in strengthening the professional cooperation between the Ybl Miklós Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering at Óbuda University and the Egyptian institution. The collaboration focuses on promoting student and faculty mobility as well as launching joint research programs. The two deans of Benha University, Prof. Zeinab Feisal Abd Elkader and Prof. Mohamed Said Mohamed Abd-Elghaffar, were welcomed on behalf of the university leadership by Dr. habil. Viktória Sugár, Vice-Rector for Sustainability and Strategic Development.

The discussions on deepening institutional relations, which began last year in Egypt, continued at the Ybl Miklós Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering under the leadership of Dr. Zsuzsanna Fáczányi, Vice Dean for Research, with the participation of faculty members. The meetings focused on those areas considered most promising for encouraging academic mobility and initiating joint research projects.

Particular attention was devoted to heritage protection and joint efforts aimed at preserving built heritage, including field archaeological research at highly endangered Egyptian historical sites, architectural documentation, and the development and implementation of modern site management plans. The Egyptian colleagues also presented and discussed their proposal for establishing a joint Sustainable Built Heritage Workshop. This platform would integrate heritage preservation, sustainability considerations, and the opportunities provided by smart systems into education and research through the exploration of topics such as the adaptive reuse of historic buildings, sustainable renovation practices, climate resilience, intelligent conservation and monitoring systems, as well as digital accessibility and visitor experience.

In addition to the professional consultations, the guests visited the laboratories of the Institute of Civil Engineering and the studios of the Institute of Architecture. They also delivered a scientific presentation aligned with the faculty’s key research areas to an audience of lecturers and students.
