Sustainability Festival at Obuda University

On 28 November, sustainability and environmental protection were in the spotlight, led by the Rejtő Sándor Faculty of Light Industry and Environmental Engineering of Óbuda University.

The event took place in the main building’s atrium of Óbuda University, where students from three secondary schools participated in the programme called Sustainability Festival.
The aim of the event was to show young people – through playful, interactive stations – how science meets environmentally conscious thinking in everyday life.

Interactive stations – learning through experience

Throughout the morning, students could try a variety of professional and educational activities within The Green Mission exhibition programme:

  • Sustainable Escape Room (KSZGYSZ) – logical challenges built around environmental issues.
  • Greenlab Measuring Vehicle Demonstration – students could see real instruments in action, experiencing “science at work”.
  • Scientific Quiz – fast-paced challenges on sustainability topics.
  • Kaposvár Waste Management – a selective waste collection competition and the creation of a joint “green pledge tree”.
  • Metro Project – a foam-furniture exhibition and a creative “foam blooming” craft workshop.

The popularity of the programme was reflected in the lively atmosphere that filled the atrium all morning, with participating students actively engaging in all stations.

Recycling on the runway

One of the most colourful highlights of the day was the Recycling Fashion Show at 12:30, where creative outfits made from repurposed materials walked the runway, inspiring students to rethink the use of everyday materials.

Shared lunch, shared experiences

The programme concluded with a sandwich lunch at 1 p.m., giving participants the opportunity to have informal conversations with lecturers, university students and representatives of the organising institutions.

Joint effort for sustainability

The Sustainability Festival was organised in cooperation with the Rudolf Kalman Foundation for Óbuda University, Óbuda University RKK, the Association of Environmental Service Providers and Manufacturers (KSZGYSZ), and the Kaposvár Waste Management Nonprofit Ltd.

The organisers hope that students, enriched by new experiences, will look at their environment with even greater awareness—because the foundations of a sustainable future are built in the mindset of today’s youth.
